The Phoenix Lodge No.43
The Phoenix Lodge No.43 can trace its origin beyond the Charter date of 1881 to an earlier Akaroa Lodge which began in 1876. From the metaphoric ashes of that earlier Lodge arose the current Lodge.
Joining with the majority of Lodges in New Zealand under the Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of New Zealand in 1890, it proudly remembers the early association with the Grand Lodge of England, and celebrates the early connection of Freemasonry in Akaroa with the Grand Lodge of France.
Members come from all around Banks Peninsula, as well as a strong contingent from Christchurch who enjoy the special fellowship of a "country" Lodge.
The Lodge is proud of its heritage, of the strength it has forged for itself, and the strong links to the community.
